NTA NET In India till 1989 universities’ degree (PG) was more than enough to become Assistant Professors in Indian universities and colleges. But increased numbers of universities, their different standards and dissimilar yardstick to gauge the proficiency of students while awarding the marks leads to laborious task for grading the students of different universities for similar purpose.
Thus, it was need of the hour to devise a common measurement tool to scale-down the candidates’ eligibility to become Assistant Professors and award Junior Research Fellowship. In 1989 Universities Grant Commission issued guidelines and conducting a common exam called “National Eligibility Test “ for all who want to become Assistant Professor and aiming at fellowship for their Ph.D.
From 1989 to 2018, UGC & CBSE were the examination agency, who was successful in awarding Lectureship Eligibility as well as JRF. Upon constituting National Testing Agency (NTA) in November 2017 thereafter till now UGC NET exams are being conducted by NTA.
